2024-2025 9th Grade and New Student Parent Guide
We are excited to welcome the C. E. Byrd family. Byrd High School turns 100 years old in October of 2025. Your graduation will be a part of the next century of greatness!
In the one-hundred-year history of Byrd, Yellow Jackets have been a part of the history of our city, our country, and our world. We have seen the landing of men on the moon and a helicopter on Mars. We have experienced wars and longed for peace. We witnessed the tragedy of 9-11. We remember when girls wore dresses and boys had crew cuts. Our school now values diversity and individuality; we have learned that we grow when we are open to all people. We have all kinds of people at Byrd: artists and mathematicians, baseball players and gamers, future chefs and future astronauts. Byrd fosters this variety and recognizes the value of each person to our school and to our world.
As your class enters high school, we have experienced a global pandemic and other historic events, but together we can meet this challenge as we grow and learn together. There will be challenges, but our primary focus will remain constant. Byrd students are in school to learn. Our goal is to prepare our students, every student, for college and/or career. We have a wide variety of classes and clubs that allow you to grow and explore new ideas. We grow vegetables in our hydroponic lab and publish poetry in Perspectives, our literary magazine. We explore the magic of literature and the logic of calculus. Our classes are challenging, rewarding, and varied.
We want your time at Byrd to be filled with all the good times that Jackets have enjoyed in the past: Friday nights in the Hive, Homecoming parades led by the Jacket Band and filled with floats, Prom Night and Ring Ceremony. Embrace the many opportunities here at Byrd High School. Your future is bright!
My best wishes for all of you,
Mr. Badgley, Principal
C. E. Byrd Class of 1976!
