If you are interested in running for Class Officer, Intent-to-Run Forms are located outside the main office and in Mrs. Castleman’s room S311. Forms are due back to Mrs. Castleman in S311 by Wednesday, September 11.
The first practice for the Mock Trial team will be next Thursday, Sept. 12th. You did not have to be present at the first meeting to attend practice. Practice will be in Mr. Smith’s room (204) and will run no later than 5.30 pm.
Since it’s the 100th year, Student Council and Drama Club are starting a fun Scavenger Hunt every other week for Byrd students. Look around the school and follow the hints to receive a prize!
Rules:
- Do not move, break, or destroy school or personal property to reach the item.
- Bring Winner paper to Mrs.Carberry in room 202.
- You cannot search during class time.
- You must bring the item to Mrs.Carberry in between classes.
- Winner will be announced on the following Monday.

It’s time to purchase your 2024-2025 Gusher yearbook and yearbook AD! Both can be purchased on Local Level Events.
The PSAT will be given at Byrd on Tuesday, October 1st. This is a College Board exam which gives 10th and 11th grade students an opportunity to check their progress towards college readiness. It also provides practice for the SAT. For 11th grade students, PSAT scores are used to screen for candidates for the National Merit Scholarship Program Competition. Participation in PSAT testing is voluntary. Students planning to test must register by paying the $18 test fee. Mrs. Panos will get the list of student names from the online payment. Students can start paying online now. The deadline to pay the fee is Tuesday, September 10th. Payment can be submitted online on payschoolscentral.com (not on Local Level). There is no makeup for this exam. The exam fee is non-refundable.

JOIN Art Club and come create fun things with us! Applications can be found in the hall outside the art room, B7, in the basement. You will see the applications hanging on one of the art showcase bulletin boards. Art club is a service club and we meet throughout the year sporadically after school to work on projects. You do not have to be in art class to join. The deadline to join art club is Halloween!
Mock Trial – If you’re interested in a legal career or if you enjoy watching shows like Law & Order, then Mock Trial might be the perfect team for you!

Mu Alpha Theta – Math Honor Society: new member interest form available in S308. Current members need to check in with Ms. French.
Students – ACT fee waivers are available in the Counseling Office for juniors and seniors who meet the criteria for free/reduced lunch. Students are eligible for 4 fee waivers during their junior and senior years. When registering for the ACT with a fee waiver, students receive free ACT prep available through their ACT accounts. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Students must apply for free/reduced lunch at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ You will receive an e-mail from the Child Nutrition Program. You must provide this to the counseling office to receive a waiver.
Parents and students – There will be a wrestling informational meeting in the learning center on September 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm. If your child has an interest in wrestling please try to attend even if for a moment. Thank you, Coach Yawn
