You will be prompted to include the graduate’s name, e-mail address, and cell phone number where you would like your proof sent. You will also be asked to upload a selfie which will assist the photographer in identifying each student.
College Visit – A representative from Savannah College of Art and Design will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on Wednesday, April 24. They are also hosting 1on1 meetings for students and their families to explore the next phase of their academic journey at SCAD. You can use the link below to schedule a meeting. A.C. Steere Senior Reunion
SENIORS- Cap and Gowns will be passed out April 24th for last name A-M and April 25th for N-Z.
Seniors – All senior library books are due by April 26. Seniors need to pay outstanding library fines by May 3. Diplomas will be held for outstanding library fines. Check with the library if you have questions about books or fines.
Louisiana Youth Seminar – Lyle Leaders – If you are interested in attending this leadership camp this summer at LSU in Baton Rouge, please see Mrs. Prothro. I have a few scholarships. They will go to the first students who sign up online. Some have picked up the information, but no one is signed up yet.
Work Permit – If you are planning to get a job and need a work permit, please get the paperwork from your employer as soon as possible, and bring it to Mrs. Prothro so you can get a worker’s permit before school gets out.
Mascot – Do you want to be the school’s next mascot? Jack the Jacket tryouts are coming up! You must be a current 10th or 11th grader. Go to Mrs. Zator’s room S310 for more information!
ASVAB – Shreveport MEPS will be hosting an ASVAB End of School Year Round-up at Northwood High School in Shreveport, La on June 5, 2024 at 9:00 am for all graduating Senior and Senior for upcoming School Year 2024-2025. If you have any interested students please email me their first and Last name by 28 May 2024. Students will need provide Photo ID to gain access to test session. Student will be responsible for their own transportation to test location: 5939 Old Mooringsport Road, Shreveport, LA 71107.
Students – Salads are $2 now and you can buy one in the Growing for Good lab during both lunch shifts.

Basketball – Any current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders interested in joining the Boys Basketball Team – Tryouts will be held on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 after school in the Gym from 4 to 5. Wear workout clothes and shoes.
South Highlands Alumni 8th – 11th Graders – If you would like to volunteer at South Highlands Field Day, please see Mrs. Prothro for a permission slip. The date is May 3rd. You must not miss a test, End of Course Test or a project.
Key Club or Astra Club Members – 9th, 10 th or 11 th Grades – Mrs. Prothro needs 40 workers to volunteer at the Judson Field Day on May 3, 2024. Sigh up in her office. You will need to get a permission slip form, and you must provide your own transportation.
Seniors– Applications are available for the Caddo Extension Academy. The Caddo Extension Academy provides a year of specialized training, college coursework, and coaching at no cost to students. This program is designed to help graduating seniors who have not earned a TOPS ACT score or gpa, pay for a year of schooling. Students can also use this year to qualify for the TOPS Tech/Opportunity Award
via a qualifying ACT score. Students can choose programs at Ayers College, BPCC, Southern University Shreveport, or Northwest Louisiana
Technical College. Please come to the Counseling Office if you have any questions or would like more information. Applications
must be returned by Friday, May 3
First Baptist Alumni – 9th -11th Grades – See Mrs. Prothro if you would like to volunteer at the First Baptist Field Day on May 10, 2024. You may not miss any tests, EOC tests or projects, and you must provide your own transportation. Mrs. Prothro has permission slips. First come, first serve.
Students – Are your drawers overflowing with old Byrd T-shirts? Well, we have a solution! Donate any gently used Byrd T-shirt for the 4th Annual Byrd Vintage Shirt Sale! Parents– If you have any interest in having your student’s interest and career potential assessed, the AIMS (Aptitude Inventory Measurement Service) test is hoping to come to Shreveport in April if there is enough interest. Student Opportunity – The application for the Allied Health Education and Discovery (AHEAD) Program is open for Summer 2024! The AHEAD Program is a 5-day summer program for Louisiana high school students interested in exploring the health career programs offered at LSU Health Shreveport – School of Allied Health Professions: Medical Laboratory Scientist, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Physician Assistant, Public Health Professional, Respiratory Therapist and Speech-Language Pathologist

Recruiting High School Juniors/Seniors For Humana Foundation Senior Council – We are actively recruiting juniors/seniors in high school who are established and emerging community leaders to serve on our Senior Council Advisory Board. The Senior Council is a voluntary group of 8-10 members – seniors 65+, juniors/seniors in high school and a Humana associate – who have input in creating unique experiences that bring the Foundation’s health equity mission to life. Humana Foundation Council members must live in one our target geographies of Florida, Kentucky (Louisville), Louisiana or Texas. Scholarship – The Louisiana State University chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering four, one-time scholarships in the amounts of $2000, $1000, $1000, and $1000 to incoming freshmen men for the 2024-2025 academic year. To qualify for the Balanced Man Scholarship, you must submit an application by May 12, 2024, and enroll, full-time, at Louisiana State University, for the Fall 2024 term. Scholarship – Class of 2024 Lela’s $1000 FAFSA Completion Scholarship application for the Class of 2024 is now available for those who plan to apply for college financial aid by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Schoolhouse Connection’s Youth Leadership Program Scholarship is available for students who have experienced homelessness in the last 6 years.
- Applicants must reside in the United States.
Note: undocumented applicants are eligible. - Applicants must be born on or after November 24, 2003.
- Applicants must begin college (four year, community college, or trade school) for the first time in 2024 (not including dual-enrollment courses).

Opportunities to Engage in State and Federal Policy Advocacy:
Seniors- The Hagan Scholarship is available at www.hsfmo.org. This is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship that provides up to $7500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Applicants must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and plan to work 240 hours from January 1, 2024-the completion of the 2024 fall semester of college. Applicant’s adjusted gross household income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax purposes must not have exceeded $85,000.

Seniors– In order to graduate, all students must complete a financial aid step. You must complete one of these options:
1. Complete the FAFSA- the FAFSA is now available. You can complete it at www.studentaid.gov. Mrs. Byrd will send step-by-step instructions if needed as soon as this is available. You will be completing the 2024-2025 FAFSA. The FAFSA is your application for federal grants, student loans, and is also a TOPS application. Once completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Please forward that to asbyrd@caddoschools.org so I you can be cleared for graduation.
2. Complete the Louisiana TOPS application at osfa.la.gov
(You do not have to complete both the FAFSA and TOPS application. If you complete the FAFSA, you are also applying for TOPS) If you complete this instead of the FAFSA, send your confirmation to asbyrd@caddoschools.org.
3. Sign a financial aid waiver. You may pick up one in the Counseling Office. If you do this, you will not receive any federal or TOPS money for college/technical school.

Seniors – Updated transcripts are now available in the Counseling Office. Each student will receive a copy of the transcript during Senior Orientation in English IV classes. If you need one prior to that visit, you can pick one up in the Counseling Office. Transcripts and transcript information cannot be e-mailed or provided over the telephone. All public colleges and universities in Louisiana have access to transcripts and you should not have to send them. If they tell you they cannot access the transcript, or if you need to send a transcript to a private school within Louisiana, or any school outside of Louisiana, you will need to complete the transcript request form at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/26815. Make sure you submit payment and complete the google form on that page. Students applying to colleges through the Common App do not have to complete the transcript request form. The transcript will be uploaded on the Common App portal.
Seniors – If you plan to attend the University of Virginia as your top choice school and want to be nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship, please notify Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office.
