Graduation Announcement – Graduation is at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 29, at the Independence Stadium.

Congratulations to our All Division I District I Boys Soccer Coach of the Year Gary McCormick, Offensive MVP Dylan Garrett, and Defensive MVP Jackson Paine.  Our First Team members include Michael Hamauei, Nick Sepulvado, Jayson Frink, and Jack Walker.

Junior Class Officers need to meet TOMORROW at noon in Jack’s Landing.

Support Your Fellow Jackets – Come out and support our Baseball Boys by grabbing supper from Cane’s here on Kings Highway.  They will have a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 31 from 4-8:00 pm.  Just mention when you order that you support Byrd Baseball and our team will receive 15% of the proceeds!

Juniors – If you are interested in becoming a Top Jacket your senior year, there is a MANDATORY information/interest meeting in the Learning Center next Thursday, April 1.  You have two options to attend that day – either before school at 7:45 or after school at 4:00.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Panos or Ms. Springer.

StuCo Elections – Student Council Campaign Week will continue through next Thursday, April 1st. Elections will be held the week of April 6th – 9th. Only students who want to hold officer positions need to pick up a packet. Members-at-large will fill out applications in April.

The honor graduate list is posted outside the Counseling Office and on the Class of 2021 Canvas Page. Honor graduates are all students with a 4.0 GPA, plus the top 5% of the remaining graduating class. This year it includes all students with a 3.91 or higher cumulative grade point average. Honor graduates are eligible to purchase and wear a purple and gold honor cord, which will be distributed at the Senior Awards Assembly (TBA). You can purchase immediately at locallevelevents.com, or in the counseling office beginning April 1. If purchasing at school, you must have exact change/cash only. The cost is $10. Cords must be purchased by April 23 to receive them at the assembly.  Purchase cords online at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/14444 Your access code is your student ID number without the preceding 0.

Math/Science Magnet students may wear the magnet stole at graduation. This is the white satin stole with letters BHS printed on the end. Students – Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA who are interested in becoming a member-at-large for Student Council next school year need to fill out a form https://forms.gle/aai7D33amze2XxFc6 by April 2.  QR codes will also be available around the school to scan the link.

Support Your Fellow Jackets – Please come support Byrd Beta Club at Chipotle Youree Dr on Wednesday, April 7, from  5-9 pm.  When ordering your food, be sure to let them know you are there for Byrd Beta!  Thanks for your support!

College Visits – BPCC – April 8.

Seniors – You have to complete a financial aid step in order to graduate. Most students will complete the FAFSA application. The FAFSA is the TOPS application, as well as a general financial aid application that indicates if you are eligible to receive any grant money (this is money you use for college or technical school and you do not have to pay back), as well as student loans. If you need help completing your FAFSA, please click the link below: https://fafsahelp.paperform.co/.  This link is also available in the Class of 2021 Canvas announcements.

There is still time to apply to the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC).  LYAC accepting applications for membership from high school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state. CLICK HERE for info.

Upcoming Deadlines:

The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is excited to continue its annual scholarship program for young ladies in Caddo and Bossier Parishes who demonstrate high academics and a commitment to community service.  Each year, we award two $1,000 scholarships – one to a student in Caddo Parish and one to a student in Bossier Parish.  Requirements and applications are available on our website at www.jlsb.org/scholarships. The deadline is March 31.

The Bossier Federal Credit Union scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office, or at www.bossierfcu.org/scholarships  This scholarship is available for any high school senior in Caddo, Bossier, or Webster parish entering college in fall 2021. You must submit the application, current transcript, and a typed, double-spaced essay of 500 words. The essay topic is “Who is someone in your life that you consider to be a role model? How has this person impacted your life?” The deadline is April 1.

2021 We the Students Essay Contest is available at https://billofrightsinstitute.org/we-the-students-essay-contest Essay Prompt “What is the relationship between Equality and Justice?” 1st Place prize is $7,500. The deadline is April 15.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Our local GUMBO (Games Uniting Mind and Body) meet on Saturday, April 24 at Lee Hedges Stadium.  This is a track and field meet for young people with physical impairments and visual impairments.  You may volunteer from 8:00am-11:00am for the field event competition or from 10:00am-1:00pm for the track events.  Please feel free to volunteer for the entire games from 8:00 am-1:00 pm if available.  All times are estimates only and will be confirmed closer to 4/15/2021.  Please email Dianna Watson at dianna.watson20@gmail.com with any questions or to sign up to volunteer.  Covid precautions will be followed.
