ASVAB – Students who took this test may pick up their scores in B-2.

Baseball tryouts will be TODAY, January 28, at the baseball field.  Potential players need to have physicals completed and also their grades printed.  Tryouts will begin at 6:00 pm. See Coach Williams, Tromba, or Dupont if you need any additional information

Club Pictures will continue TODAY.  Due to covid restrictions, clubs are split up into smaller groups either by grade or by alphabet. Students will report to the auditorium 5 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Horticulture Club will meet TODAY morning at 8:00 AM in Room 313.  New members are welcome and we will plant flower seeds!

Track & Field – Students interested in outdoor track and field please come by the front office (see Mrs. Hill) and get an eligibility packet.  Contact Coach Plaza (318-272-1671 jep1932@bellsouth.net) and make arrangements to attend the first official practice on Monday, February 1. Paperwork must be completed and turned in by MONDAY.

Students – Student Council will be hosting a blood drive on February 2^nd in the Learning Center. Seniors, remember if you have donated six times, you may be eligible to be in a drawing for a $500 scholarship. Also, you will receive the donor cord. Because of COVID regulations, Jackets need to use the link to sign up for your donation time, or you can see Mrs. Carberry in room 202 during first hour and she can sign you up. Students – The Band will have a fundraiser at Newk’s Eatery on Youree Drive on Wednesday, February 10th from 5-8 p.m. Mention you’re with the Byrd Band and they will receive 15% of receipts collected. Thanks for supporting our amazing band!

Students – Be on the lookout for a link on Canvas to fill out the school survey for Matchomatics! This year, Student Council will be passing out your results FOR FREE! Yearbooks – The Gusher staff wants to remind you that they’ve been working on the 2021 yearbook through covid restrictions, virtual school, and an all-around crazy year! Senior Graduation Information – Due to the many restrictions placed on visitors this year, ordering your graduation supplies are now being handled online or in person at Graduate Sales, 3524 Youree Drive, phone 318-865-0409.  Their online website is graduatesalesyouree.com and office hours are Monday – Friday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

Students – Step Forward is excited to announce that it is Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) student recruitment time. TAC is a regional youth-led group appointed to help improve local policy decision-making and programming that impacts teens and young adults in North Louisiana. Membership in TAC  provides a valuable opportunity for teens to participate in the democratic process, interact with city leaders and impact important decisions. In a press release last May,  Dr. Goree embraced Step Forward’s Teen Advisory Committees recommendations.  Now, together we must begin the work to ensure that the TACs recommendations are a part of what is done in Caddo schools every day. Presidential Volunteer Service Award – Any student who has 100 or more volunteer service hours from March 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021, is eligible for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.  The hours can be school-related, community activities, church activities, mission trips, etc.  Completed volunteer activity sheets must be submitted to Mrs. Prothro by Monday, March 1, 2021.  Please email Mrs. Prothro at mprothro@caddoschools.org with any questions. Upcoming Deadlines:

The Thomas McElroy scholarship application is available at cfnla.org. Click on COMMUNITY then choose SCHOLARSHIPS. You will need to create an online account to complete the scholarship.  This $1,000 scholarship awarded to one student who plans to major in Science or Engineering. Students must have 3.0/4.0 gpa and successfully complete Calculus and Physics while in high school. The deadline is SUNDAY.

The online application for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is available starting on November 1^st at jackierobinson.org. Through the JRF application, more than 4,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson. The deadline to submit the application for a JRF Scholarship is MONDAY at 5 p.m. ET
