Seniors– If you are interested in attending one of America’s Service Academies (West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy, or Merchant Marine Academy), you should RSVP for the Virtual Service Academy Day. Students – Student Council is hosting a Color War/Field Games on Friday, September 17 at 4:00 P.M. on the field behind the science building. This is a free event for all Byrd students; however, students MUST turn in a permission slip and wear goggles at the event. Permission slips are available on Canvas and must be turned in by September 15 to Mrs. Carberry in the main building (202) or Mrs. Smith in the science building (S307).
CE Byrd Men’s Soccer Interest Meeting – Interested in playing soccer this year? Come to our information meeting on Monday, September 20 at 6:00 pm in the Byrd Learning Center. Due to capacity restrictions only one parent per player, please. Masks will be required.
College Visits – La Tech September 24
PSAT – The PSAT will be given at Byrd on Tuesday, October 26. This is a College Board exam that gives 10th and 11th grade students an opportunity to check their progress towards college readiness. It also provides practice for the SAT. For 11th grade students, PSAT scores are used to screen for candidates for the National Merit Scholarship Program Competition. Participation in PSAT testing is voluntary. Students planning to test must register by paying the $17 test fee. The deadline to pay the fee is Monday, September 27th. Payment can be submitted online on PayForIt.net or to Marilyn Prothro in the counseling office. There is no makeup for this exam. The exam fee is non-refundable.

Seniors – Caddo Parish is hosting a College Career Fair at Centenary College on Thursday, October 21. College representatives from Louisiana and surrounding states will be in attendance. Please complete the google form found in your Canvas announcements. Once we know how many students are interested, we can request a time and send out permission slips. Transportation will be provided. This usually takes about one and a half hours during the school day.
Students – The Sigma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is preparing for our 2020-2021 Debutante season. The goal of our Debutante Cotillion and Scholarship Program is to enhance personal, civic, and leadership development through educational workshops while promoting community service and scholarship. This program is open to young ladies, currently enrolled in high school, who are anticipating graduation May 2021, and are planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution. This distinctive program is an experience that will remain in the hearts and minds of each young lady, as it creates an avenue for involvement in an array of cultural, academic, and social activities. Students 9-12 Grades – Any student who has 100 hours or more of volunteer service from March, 2021 to February 15, 2022, is eligible to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. These hours can be any service hours for any club, organization, church, or community activities. Attached is a log you may use to keep up with your hours. This does not replace the specific activities or volunteer opportunities required by the different clubs and organizations you participate in at Byrd; however, all of those activities can count toward this award given out in the spring of each year. Astra Club – Everyone must Join Astra Club each year. You may pay online or complete the application and pay in Mrs. Prothro’s office. Attached is also our first service project which will be to make Christmas boxes for children in EL Salvador. Seniors – Transcripts are now available. Mrs. Byrd will provide you with a transcript during orientation which will take place through English classes. Public colleges in Louisiana automatically access your transcript through the State Transcript System. You do not have to request they be sent. If you apply to a college using the Common App, you do not have to request a transcript. You must request a transcript be sent for all other colleges. You must pay the $5 transcript fee on locallevelevents.com and complete the google form to indicate where you want your transcript mailed.
Students – Gayarre History Club is accepting members for the 2021-2022 school year. Click the QR code on the fliers around the school or join by completing the application on www.gayarre.org/join and paying the dues on payforit. This academic club hosts guest speakers and movie nights, works on archives and history of Byrd and the community, and hosts the annual Gayarre Conference. Two-year members can receive honor cords to wear at graduation.
Stamp Collecting Club – Please go to Room 204 for your Application and your Club Card to join our Stamp Collecting Club. Our Club has absolutely no fee, and you do not have to be a Stamp Collector to join. All are welcome!
