If anyone is interested in purchasing a Letterman jacket, packets are available for pick up in the main office. They will be on Campus TODAY during both lunch shifts to take the orders up.

Homecoming – Tickets purchased between 10/14 and 10/17 are $50 each. There will be NO ticket sales after midnight on 10/17. *Dine and Ride tickets do NOT include a dance ticket*  CLICK HERE for tickets.

1. Your poster must be 11 inches by 14 inches.
2. One poster entry per individual. No group work please.
3. No glitter.
4. Must be flat.
5. Judging criteria: originality, neatness, impact (the theme must be somewhere on the poster)
6. Do not display student’s name or school’s name on the front of the poster.

Slushes are for sale in Jacks Landing. They are $2 each.

ASTRA CLUB – Happy October ladies! We are so excited for a great start of the year! We are so proud of those of you who participated in the months of August and September in our Astra events. And we have a lot of you working towards the 100 hours of service with service with your churches and community as well! All of that is amazing! Be sure to log any and all hours on your log sheet but don’t double dip with Z-Club. We would like for you to have 10 hours completed by the end of each nine weeks but realize many of you have not gotten that done. So, we are going to extend that into the 2nd nine weeks and allow you to get 20 cumulative hours before you leave us for Christmas break! Be sure to watch the modules for ways you can get involved.

What you can do right now:

-ReRuns are fun (just show up at Grace Community Church and help at the times in modules)

-Hoco Decoration Supplies/Candy/Butterfly Throws

-Help Decorate the HOCO float

-Ride the HOCO Float (dressed as a butterfly)

-Fairfield Elementary Carnival (sign up link in module)

-Christmas Boxes for El Salvador (due 10/14)

Having trouble understanding a concept in math or science? Need help studying for the big test? Or ACT prep before your next attempt? Science National Honor society has got your back with tutoring from some of our strongest math and science students at Byrd. Starting this week, they are available in the library every Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:45-8:15 am. No sign up necessary. Just show up. See Mrs. Comerford for  more information.

Since it’s the 100th year, Student Council and Drama Club are starting a fun Scavenger Hunt every other week for Byrd students. Look around the school and follow the hints to receive a prize!

Rules:

• Do not move, break, or destroy school or personal property to reach the item.
• Bring Winner paper to Mrs.Carberry in room 202.
• You cannot search during class time.
• You must bring the item to Mrs.Carberry in between classes.
• Winner will be announced on the following Monday.

For Southfield School Alumni – Southfield School’s annual Grandfriends Day will take place on Friday, November 22nd. As in previous years, Southfield is seeking student volunteers to assist with the event, and were hoping to recruit former Southfield students for this important role. Join Byrd FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, sponsored by Coach Cal, Mrs. Cox, & Mrs. Raines.  You do not need to be an athlete to join!  All Jackets are welcome! Applications can be picked up in any sponsor’s classroom or you may get one at any meeting!

Students – ACT fee waivers are available in the Counseling Office for juniors and seniors who meet the criteria for free/reduced lunch. Students are eligible for 4 fee waivers during their junior and senior years. When registering for the ACT with a fee waiver, students receive free ACT prep available through their ACT accounts. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Students must apply for free/reduced lunch at https://www.myschoolapps.com/  You will receive an e-mail from the Child Nutrition Program. You must provide this to the counseling office to receive a waiver.

Scholarships & Contests

Poster Contests – The Security Department of Caddo Parish School System, Division of Mental Health, Wellness, and Safe Schools, is sponsoring several poster contests to highlight various prevention initiatives listed below. We encourage our Byrd students to participate in these contests! Please turn the posters in to Mrs. Panos by the deadlines listed.

1. Character Education Week – Theme: “Color the World with Character Traits” DEADLINE 10-18-24

3. Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week – Theme: “Choose Respect” DEADLINE 11-8-24

PTSA Reflections 2024 – Deadline for entires is December 4, 2024

Elks Student of the month scholarship applications are available in the counseling office or the Class of 2025 Canvas page. Each month (October-April) a scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior boy and senior girl who demonstrate exemplary standards. Students should be well-rounded with leadership, citizenship, service, and scholarship qualities. Students will compete against other high school students in Caddo-Bossier area. Applications are due by the 10th of each month and only need to be submitted once.

 

The Willis Knighton/Independence Bowl Community Service Scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office and on the Class of 2025 Canvas Page. One $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with plans to attend a four-year college. Students must have a 3.0 minimum grade point average and provide documented dedication to community service limited to junior and senior years only. Students must submit applications to Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office by 4pm on Monday, October 14.
