PTSAByrdBlastByrd High School, PTSA Byrd Blast

Want to grow in your faith and get plugged in? FCA & First Priority will start in September! Just Join the clubs by showing up! First Priority will meet every Wednesday during lunch for a student led devotional.  1st lunch location is to be determined, and 2nd lunch will meet in Mrs. Raines Room S105. FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but you don’t have to be an athlete to join!  We meet every Thursday morning in the Learning Center at 7:45-8:22.  Come worship and enjoy a student led devotional that will lift you up! Interested in traveling to Italy in May? There will be an interest meeting on Tuesday, September 8th at 5:30pm in the Learning Center. See Mrs. Smith in S307 or Ms Springer in S211 if you have any questions.

 

YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT- Applications for this school year are available outside of S306 and in the main office. New AND returning member must complete an application and pay the $30 dues on School Cash Online by Friday 9/4. YAG is an academic club requiring a minimum 2.76 GPA. Our 1st meeting will be 9/9 at 7:40 AM in the Learning Center.

 

To join French Club, please come by room 114 in the main building, pick up an application and pay the fee on SchoolCashOnline.  Applications and fees are due by October 1st, and you don’t have to be in a French class.

 

Love science?  Want to share your love of science with others and get a pretty graduation cord to go along with it.  Science National Honor Society is accepting applications for  the prestigious Science National Honor Society.  This organization provides science in-reach and out-reach and looks great on a resume.  Pick up an application outside of Room 211.  Applications are due to Mrs. Comerford by Friday, August 28th.  See Mrs. Comerford in room 211 for more information.

 

Powerlifting meeting for all interested girls and boys August 31st at 6:00 pm in the learning center.

 

There will be a Student Council meeting on September 2nd at 7:50 in the auditorium. Interested freshmen should attend. Freshmen applications are due September 4th. 

 

All girls interested in trying out for girls soccer we will have a parent meeting at the end of back to school night in the auditorium. Tryouts are Wednesday September 8 and Thursday 9th at Byrd 6pm to 8pm. You must have a physical to tryout. We will provide a free physical September 3 immediately after school at 4:00 pm.

 

New and returning membership in Gayarre History Club for 2026-2027 is open through September 15! Visit www.gayarre.org/join or see the flyers around school to join. Yearly dues must be paid by September 30 on SchoolCash Online. Gayarre is an academic club that hosts an annual conference, work days in the Archive, movies, and trivia nights. Two-year members receive a graduation cord. Ready. Set. ACT Prep! A free 6-week ACT tutorial program at LSU Health Shreveport Center for Medical Education Building.  Program dates are October 24th-December 5th (Saturdays Only) from 1:00pm-4:00pm.  You must be a Junior or Senior, minimum 3.5 GPA, previous ACT composite scores were between 18 & 23, and proof of upcoming registration for ACT in June.  Deadline to apply is October 6, 2026.  Apply online: http://bit.ly/readyset-act

Byrd’s literary magazine, Perspectives, is now accepting entries for our 2026-2027 edition. All C.E. Byrd students are welcome to submit their creative writing or visual art for consideration. A link to the submission form can be found on the Byrd app or can be gotten from any English teacher. If you would like to be a member of the Perspectives staff, please see Mrs. Maier in room 203 for a copy of the application.

 

Are you interested in learning and playing Mahjong? Mahjong is FUN and BUILDS YOUR BRAIN! If so, please come by Rm 117 in the Main Building for a club application. There is no club fee and Ms. Hammit will teach you!

 

Jackets, do you love to read? Do you want to read more books? Maybe you should come to our Book Jackets Club! We will meet the first Tuesday of each month during each lunch shift. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 1st. Each student who comes will receive a free copy of one of the ten titles on the Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice List for 26-27. We will have pizza as well. Everyone is encouraged to finish reading their book throughout September and return Tuesday, October 13th to share their thoughts and reviews of the book. Then, we’ll be able to switch books with one another and read a new one! Please sign up via the Sign Up Genius List.
