Jamboree Update: Tickets are $7 pre-sale while they last. We are allotted 1500 presale tickets. In order for Byrd to receive this money you must select Byrd when purchasing your ticket. Otherwise, Captain Shreve will receive the funds. Once these tickets are sold, or 3 pm on Thursday the 29th, the cost of the ticket goes up to $10.
– *CLEAR BAGS ONLY* All sporting events, all year. Exceptions for cheer, band, etc.
– No Umbrellas
– For the Jamboree Tickets, they must choose Byrd, or the money will go to Shreve

Sports tickets – Tickets to all athletic events have increased this year. F/JV football games will be $7 and Varsity football will be $10. The Caddo Parish Jamboree tickets are on sale now for $7. This price goes up to $10 at 3 pm on the day of the Jamboree, which is August 29th.
Varsity football tickets are $10 a piece.
Freshman/JV football tickets are $7 a piece.

Students – Student Council will pass out paint slips this morning for the Jamboree. We will be painting cars during 1st hour this week, and the slip MUST be on your dash until your car is painted! If not, your car will not be painted.

Youth and Government – Are you passionate about politics? Are you driven to debate? Come to the Youth and Gov interest meeting, debate, and application distribution on TODAY at 7:40 AM in the Learning Center. Youth and Gov is an academic club open to all grades, but you must have a 2.76 GPA to join.
Auditions for Game of Tiaras are tonight from 6-8 and FRIDAY at 4:30 in T-1. Friday replaces the previously scheduled Thursday. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AUDITIONING, PREPARE A 30-60 SECOND MONOLOGUE OF ANY TYPE (GAME OF TIARAS IS A RAUCOUS COMEDY). SEE MR. WILLIAMS IN ROOM 200 OR MR. DION (TAP DRAMA DIRECTOR) IN T-1 IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.
PARENTS – Shreve Memorial Public Library requires parents to visit a branch IN PERSON to grant authorization for their teens to have access to DIGITAL library services from the public library. Bring YOUR own public library card and ID to any public library branch OR visit the Book Mobile with these items Thursday, August 29 @ the Football Jamboree!!! You’ll be able to complete the authorization required for your teen to access digital library services from the PUBLIC library system, including thousands of FREE ebooks, audiobooks, music, movies, and more!
Science National Honor Society is accepting applications for new members. Applications can be picked up from Mrs. Comerford in room 211 or Ms. Adamson in Room S106. Application deadline is August 30th. See Mrs. Comerford or Ms. Adamson for more information or with questions.
Freshman! If you are interested in joining Student Council, the deadline to apply is Friday, August 30th. If you did not receive a QR code from the Freshman Club Fair, please see Mrs. Carberry in room 202 to get one. Do not fill out the online application during school hours, or you will not be accepted.

A representative from the US Army will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on September 5.
A representative from Rhodes College will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on September 9.
A representative from Tulane University will be available outside the cafeteria during first lunch shift only on September 11.
A representative from LSU-Shreveport will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on Friday, September 13.
A representative from Centenary College will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on September 18.
The PSAT will be given at Byrd on Tuesday, October 1st. This is a College Board exam which gives 10th and 11th grade students an opportunity to check their progress towards college readiness. It also provides practice for the SAT. For 11th grade students, PSAT scores are used to screen for candidates for the National Merit Scholarship Program Competition. Participation in PSAT testing is voluntary. Students planning to test must register by paying the $18 test fee. Mrs. Panos will get the list of student names from the online payment. Students can start paying online now. The deadline to pay the fee is Tuesday, September 10th. Payment can be submitted online on payschoolscentral.com (not on Local Level). There is no makeup for this exam. The exam fee is non-refundable.
ASTRA– Service opportunities are listed in the Canvas course. Look for your invitation. The St. Jude’s Tennis Classic is our first opportunity. Bring a box of granola bars/ packaged snacks (each box equals 1 service) or donate gift cards of any sort (every $10- 1 service hour). All donations can be brought to Mrs. Cole in (S210) or Mrs. Lary in (S209). All donations due by September 10th
Since it’s the 100th year, Student Council and Drama Club are starting a fun Scavenger Hunt every other week for Byrd students. Look around the school and follow the hints to receive a prize!
Rules:
- Do not move, break, or destroy school or personal property to reach the item.
- Bring Winner paper to Mrs.Carberry in room 202.
- You cannot search during class time.
- You must bring the item to Mrs.Carberry in between classes.
- Winner will be announced on the following Monday.

Students – If you are interested in being a part of Film Prize Jr. this year, see Mrs. Smith in S307 no later than August 31st!
JOIN Art Club and come create fun things with us! Applications can be found in the hall outside the art room, B7, in the basement. You will see the applications hanging on one of the art showcase bulletin boards. Art club is a service club and we meet throughout the year sporadically after school to work on projects. You do not have to be in art class to join. The deadline to join art club is Halloween!
Mock Trial – If you’re interested in a legal career or if you enjoy watching shows like Law & Order, then Mock Trial might be the perfect team for you!

Students – ACT fee waivers are available in the Counseling Office for juniors and seniors who meet the criteria for free/reduced lunch. Students are eligible for 4 fee waivers during their junior and senior years. When registering for the ACT with a fee waiver, students receive free ACT prep available through their ACT accounts. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Students must apply for free/reduced lunch at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ You will receive an e-mail from the Child Nutrition Program. You must provide this to the counseling office to receive a waiver.
Parents and students – There will be a wrestling informational meeting in the learning center on September 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm. If your child has an interest in wrestling please try to attend even if for a moment. Thank you, Coach Yawn
