Get ready to show off your singing skills. Volunteers of America – Communities in Schools will be hosting Voices Unreleased, a fun karaoke event where students can step up to the mic and sing along some of their favorite songs. Karaoke will be taking place on September 25th, sign up will be during both lunch shifts TODAY. Karaoke winners will receive a pizza party.

FCA will be held on Wednesday September 23 in the Auditorium this week for National See You At The Pole Day! Come worship with live music, and pray over our school together!  All students and teachers are invited. That’s See you at the Pole, in the auditorium on wednesday sept 23 from 7:45-8:22.  Because  of this, we will not have FCA this thursday!  Please see mrs cox, mrs raines, or coach cal for questions.

 

Volunteers of America – Communities in Schools is giving 7 lucky students the chance to win a free football ticket to the C.E. Byrd vs. Pleasant Grove game. How to Qualify: Have NO referrals from September 1-18. Winners will be announced during the Pep Rally on September 25th.

Caddo Parish is hosting a College Fair on October 19. College representatives from across Louisiana and surrounding states will be in attendance to answer questions about their schools and the application process. The event is open to all grade levels and will be held at LSUS. Students must travel by Caddo Parish school bus. Please pick up a field trip form in the Counseling Office and return it no later than 4pm on Friday, October 2nd. 

 

Sophomores and juniors who plan to take the PSAT, sign up for free PSAT prep given by Byrd teachers. Check your Canvas announcements for more details and the link to sign up.

We’re a service and leadership organization where you’ll learn, serve, create, and help produce our Black History Program in February. And you do NOT have to be African American to join! If you’re interested in history, culture, leadership, or being part of something bigger, we want you! Our first meeting is next Tuesday during EIP in Room S212. Have questions? The Willis Knighton/Independence Bowl Foundation Community Service Scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office or the link below. One $5000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with plans to attend a four-year college. Students must have a 3.0 minimum grade point average and provide documented dedication to community service limited to junior and senior years only. Students must use forms provided. Students must submit applications to Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office by 4pm on Monday, October 12.

 

Ready. Set. ACT Prep. A free 6-week ACT tutorial program at LSU Health Shreveport Center for Medical Education Building. Program dates are October 24th-December 5th (Saturdays Only) from 1:00pm-4:00pm. You must be a Junior or Senior, minimum 3.5 GPA, previous ACT composite scores were between 18 & 23, and proof of upcoming registration for ACT in December. Deadline to apply is October 6, 2026. Club Info

Art Club applications are now available! Pick up is outside of B7 and B4 in the basement. Art club is a service club and you do not have to be in art or an artist to join. The fee is $10 and available on School Cash Online. Deadline to turn in your application and pay your fee is October 30th.

 

All students wishing to join Latin Club this year should come give their names to Mr. Gilchrist in 116 as soon as possible. Interested students can also email their name to Mr. Gilchrist. These names will be given to the bookkeeper so students can pay dues via the online portal.

 

To join French Club, please come by room 114 in the main building, pick up an application and pay the fee on SchoolCashOnline. Applications and fees are due by October 1st, and you don’t have to be in a French class.

 

If you are interested in joining Drama Club, come see Mrs. Martinson in Room 200 to get an application form.

 

FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but you don’t have to be an athlete to join! We meet every Thursday morning in the Learning Center at 7:45-8:22 am. Come worship and enjoy a student led devotional that will lift you up! Are you interested in learning and playing Mahjong? Mahjong is FUN and BUILDS YOUR BRAIN! If so, please come by Rm 117 in the Main Building for a club application. There is no club fee and Ms. Hammit will teach you!

 

Byrd’s literary magazine, Perspectives, is now accepting entries for our 2026-2027 edition. All C.E. Byrd students are welcome to submit their creative writing or visual art for consideration. A link to the submission form can be found on the Byrd app or can be gotten from any English teacher. If you would like to be a member of the Perspectives staff, please see Mrs. Maier in room 203 for a copy of the application.

 

College Visits

A representative from ULM will be here during both lunch shifts on Friday, October 2.

 

A representative from The University of Arkansas will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on October 20.

 

Scholarships

Elks Student of the month scholarship applications are available in the counseling office or the Class of 2027 Canvas page. Each month (September-April) a scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior boy and senior girl who demonstrate exemplary standards. Students should be well-rounded with leadership, citizenship, service, and scholarship qualities. Students will compete against other high school students in Caddo-Bossier area. Applications are due by noon on the 1st of each month and only need to be submitted once.

 

Senior Information

Seniors – transcripts, which include your gpa and class rank, are now available. Students in English classes this semester can pick up a personal copy from your English teacher. If you do not have English, stop by the Counseling Office between classes or at lunch. Students can use this information when applying to colleges. Transcripts cannot be e-mailed or sent through Canvas. All public colleges/universities in Louisiana have access to your transcript through the Student Transcript System and we should not have to mail them. They will notify you if they were not able to access it. If you are applying to an out of state or private college/ university, or a Louisiana school that could not access through the state transcript system, your transcript must be mailed. You must pay for the transcript on locallevelevents.com AND complete the Google form so we will know where to send the transcript. If you are applying through the Common App, you do not have to mail your transcript. These will be sent electronically.
