2025 Ring Ceremony – Let’s celebrate being the 100th graduating class and kick off our senior year with the biggest ring ceremony yet! Ring Ceremony is May 7th at 6pm. If you plan on participating in Ring Ceremony, you need to visit Local Level events to register. Scan the QR code around the school to register. Also, be sure you submit your pictures for the slide show on time and to the correct email. All of the information pertaining to the ceremony and slide show is listed on Local Level. Please see Mrs. Cole or Mrs. Bolton if you have any questions. The deadline to register for Ring Ceremony is April 18.


College Visit – A representative from Savannah College of Art and Design will be available outside the cafeteria during both lunch shifts on Wednesday, 4/24. Service Academy Day – The offices of Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy, Speaker Mike Johnson and Representative Julia Letlow will be hosting Service Academy Day on the campus of LSU-Shreveport on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The event will be at the University Center Theatre, with registration opening at 8:30 AM and the event beginning at 9 AM. All high school students and their parents, as well as school officials, are welcome to attend for free. Representatives from America’s Service Academies, including West Point and the Naval and Air Force Academies, will make presentations on what their Academies have to offer. If a student gains admittance to one of those Academies, they will graduate with a bachelor’s degree and become a commissioned officer in our Armed Forces. Additionally, the three Academies mentioned above are tuition-free. We also plan to have presentations from ROTC units attached to Universities in North Louisiana, and a presentation on the Congressional nominations process. Students must receive a nomination to be considered for admittance to most Service Academies, and most nominations come from Members of Congress. Later, students, parents and other attendees will be able to visit the booths of the Service Academies, ROTC units and Members of Congress, and ask questions.

First Baptist Alumni – 9th -11th Grades – See Mrs. Prothro if you would like to volunteer at the First Baptist Field Day on May 10, 2024.  You may not miss any tests, EOC tests or projects, and you must provide your own transportation.  Mrs. Prothro has permission slips.  First come, first serve.

South Highlands Alumni 8th – 11th Graders – If you would like to volunteer at South Highlands Field Day, please see Mrs. Prothro for a permission slip.  The date is May 3rd.  You must not miss a test, End of Course Test or a project.


Key Club or Astra Club Members – 9th, 10 th  or 11 th  Grades – Mrs. Prothro needs 40 workers to volunteer at the Judson Field Day on May 3, 2024.  Sigh up in her office.  You will need to get a permission slip form, and you must provide your own transportation.


Boys State – 11th grade boys who are interested need to see Mrs. Prothro.
Off Campus Form for the 2024-2025 School Year Students and Parents –  If you picked up an Off Campus Form for the 2024-2025 school year from the Counseling Area, you need to come back and get another one!  The ones in the counseling office that students picked up are only 3 of the pages needed  The Off Campus Form is five pages. Louisiana Tech Spring Quarter Dual enrollment applications are now available. Students in the following courses can apply at LaTech- AP US History, AP European History, English IV enriched Williams only, and English IV GT.

If you have any interest in having your student’s interest and career potential assessed, the AIMS (Aptitude Inventory Measurement Service) test is hoping to come to Shreveport in April if there is enough interest. Please read the attached letter for more information. Volunteer Opportunity – SALT is excited to provide another volunteer opportunity this Spring! We are working together with a CTA instructor to assist in teaching tennis to 3rd, 4th & 5th graders at Broadmoor Stem Academy. This is a great way to give back to our community! Recruiting High School Juniors/Seniors For Humana Foundation Senior Council – We are actively recruiting juniors/seniors in high school who are established and emerging community leaders to serve on our Senior Council Advisory Board. The Senior Council is a voluntary group of 8-10 members – seniors 65+, juniors/seniors in high school and a Humana associate – who have input in creating unique experiences that bring the Foundation’s health equity mission to life. Humana Foundation Council members must live in one our target geographies of Florida, Kentucky (Louisville), Louisiana or Texas. Student Opportunity – Providence House is seeking applications from high school students interested in serving on the 2023-2024 Youth Advisory Board of Directors.  We are expanding our current youth board.  This leadership role works with the larger governing board and offers hands-on experience in philanthropy, fundraising, leadership and planning.  The Youth Board has its own budget, leadership team and they get to plan events and use their voices to support all efforts around homelessness as well as community leadership.  This is an amazing opportunity for young people to make a difference. Contest – The Shreveport Bar Association is sponsoring an essay contest for high school juniors and seniors with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The essay should be 500-750 words, typed, double-spaced, 12 point font. All entries should reflect a student’s interpretation of the Law Day 2024 theme: Voices of Democracy, and respond to the prompt provided. The deadline to submit entries is April 19. Scholarship – The Louisiana State University chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering four, one-time scholarships in the amounts of $2000, $1000, $1000, and $1000 to incoming freshmen men for the 2024-2025 academic year. To qualify for the Balanced Man Scholarship, you must submit an application by May 12, 2024, and enroll, full-time, at Louisiana State University, for the Fall 2024 term. Scholarship – The Louisiana Tennis Association is currently offering two scholarship and two high school assistance grants. The scholarship is available to current seniors. Schoolhouse Connection’s Youth Leadership Program Scholarship is available for students who have experienced homelessness in the last 6 years.

Seniors- The Hagan Scholarship is available at www.hsfmo.org. This is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship that provides up to $7500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Applicants must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and plan to work 240 hours from January 1, 2024-the completion of the 2024 fall semester of college. Applicant’s adjusted gross household income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax purposes must not have exceeded $85,000.

Important Senior Dates!!


Seniors– Please begin submitting your college acceptance letters and scholarship offers to Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office. We are requesting you submit only the college acceptance letter for the school you plan to attend, but will accept all scholarship offers you have received, even if you do not plan to accept them. You can bring a copy, e- mail asbyrd@caddoschools.org, or submit through the google form in the Class of 2024 Counseling Canvas page. This information needs to be submitted by April 19.


Seniors! Please complete the Google Form on the Class of 2024 Canvas page to vote for graduation and faculty marshals. See Mrs. Blackwell with any questions.  For the Senior Class Slideshow on the last day, please send no more than THREE pictures to byrdseniorclass@gmail.com by April 18th. Pictures need to focus on your high school experience (9th through 12th grade), and it’s best when they are group pictures. See Mrs. Blackwell with any questions.

Seniors – Every year at C.E. Byrd, the Senior class gifts a monetary donation to the school to go towards improvement projects or classroom needs on campus. Some of past projects funded are the awnings in Jack’s landing, Courtyard furniture, equipment for the science lab, new floors in the Learning Center and most recently, the class of 2023 will fund the anatomy tables for the new anatomy lab. Seniors– In order to graduate, all students must complete a financial aid step. You must complete one of these options:

1. Complete the FAFSA- the FAFSA is now available. You can complete it at www.studentaid.gov. Mrs. Byrd will send step-by-step instructions if needed as soon as this is available. You will be completing the 2024-2025  FAFSA. The FAFSA is your application for federal grants, student loans, and is also a TOPS application. Once completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Please forward that to asbyrd@caddoschools.org so I you can be cleared for graduation.

2. Complete the Louisiana TOPS application at osfa.la.gov

(You do not have to complete both the FAFSA and TOPS application. If you complete the FAFSA, you are also applying for TOPS) If you complete this instead of the FAFSA, send your confirmation to asbyrd@caddoschools.org.

3. Sign a financial aid waiver. You may pick up one in the Counseling Office. If you do this, you will not receive any federal or TOPS money for college/technical school.

Seniors – Updated transcripts are now available in the Counseling Office. Each student will receive a copy of the transcript during Senior Orientation in English IV classes. If you need one prior to that visit, you can pick one up in the Counseling Office. Transcripts and transcript information cannot be e-mailed or provided over the telephone.  All public colleges and universities in Louisiana have access to transcripts and you should not have to send them. If they tell you they cannot access the transcript, or if you need to send a transcript to a private school within Louisiana, or any school outside of Louisiana, you will need to complete the transcript request form at  https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/26815. Make sure you submit payment and complete the google form on that page.  Students applying to colleges through the Common App do not have to complete the transcript request form. The transcript will be uploaded on the Common App portal.


Seniors – If you plan to attend the University of Virginia as your top choice school and want to be nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship, please notify Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office.


SeniorsElks Student of the month scholarship applications are available in the counseling office. Each month (October-April) a scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior boy and senior girl who demonstrate exemplary standards. Students should be well-rounded with leadership, citizenship, service, and scholarship qualities. Students will compete against other high school students in Caddo-Bossier area. Applications are due by the 15th of each month and only need to be submitted once.
