Important Announcement: All students parking on campus must have their vehicles registered and decal on their windshield. We are enforcing the wearing of ID’s and having parking decals on vehicles. Students must wear their ID or obtain a temporary ID at a cost of $3. Students face disciplinary action for not wearing their ID. 

Freshmen students interested in joining the Freshman Student Council need to pick up an application in Room S301 from Ms. Hale.  Forms and fees are due September 9th.

Juniors and Senoirs – If you are interested in being a Flag Runner this year, please sign up in Mrs. Zator’s Room 310 by Monday, August 21st.

StudentsCalling all basketballers! Students interested in flexing on the court against the faculty, sign up to play! First ten students in each grade level who pay $20 get to play against the teachers and coaches and maybe even everyone’s favorite deputy! The game is September 8th at 6:00 P.M. in the gym! Seniors – If you plan to attend the University of Virginia as your top choice school and want to be nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship, please notify Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office.

Poster Contests – All posters must be turned in to Mrs. Prothro.  The size must be 11 X 14.  Each poster must contain the label attached to the back of the poster entry.  See Mrs. Prothro for more information.  If you need extra forms, email Mrs. Prothro at MProthro@caddoschools.org or come by her office. Students – Send in your designs for the third annual Homecoming t-shirt design contest! The theme is “Crush the Cowboys” with a superhero theme. The winner gets a free Homecoming shirt! Designs will be accepted from August 14th through the 25th! Send all designs to byrdstudentcouncil@gmail.com.

Auditions for Puffs, a new comedy about a certain boy wizard at a certain school of witchcraft and wizardry, will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 22 & 23, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium. Go to byrddrama.weebly.com for information, audition materials, and to sign up. If you need a hard copy of the information and materials, stop by Mr. Williams’ room (200 Main Building).

SeniorsDebutante applications are available in the Counseling Office for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Debutantes must be a high school senior no older than 18 at the time of registration and have a 2.5 gpa. Deadline to apply is August 28th.

Astra Club Announcement – Mrs. Prothro needs volunteers for the Centenary Book Bazaar on Friday, September 8th and Saturday, September 9th.  You may sign up in her office.  NOTE: We have a football game Friday, September 8th, so look at your schedule before you come to sign up.

Dual Enrollment applications are now available for LSU-Shreveport. Students in the following courses can apply at LSUS – Algood– Precalculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics; Dr. White – Medical Terminology, Carberry – English IV enriched, English IV AP. Byrd will pay for one core English, math, science, or social studies course/semester at either LSUS or LaTech, as long as funds are available. Students are encouraged to apply early. Instructions are available from these teachers, or cebyrd.com. Please read all information carefully and complete all required steps. Deadline to apply is Wednesday, August 23rd, at 4pm. Drama Club for the 2023-2024 school year is accepting members NOW! Scan one of the QR code signs around the school, fill out the form, and pay your dues on PayschoolsCentral or to Mr. Williams in room 200 in the main building.

Astra Club – It is time to join for the upcoming year.  Forms are in Mrs. Prothro’s office.  

Astra Club – Our first service project will be to make Christmas shoebox gifts for the children in El Salvador.  Each member is asked to make one shoe box, but there is no limit to the number you can make.  The directions are on the PTS email blast, or you may come to Mrs. Prothro’s office to pick up directions. Senior Information

Seniors – A financial aid step must be completed in order to graduate. If you need assistance completing your FAFSA, please let Mrs. Byrd in the Counseling Office know.

SeniorsYou must complete one of the following financial aid steps IN ORDER TO GRADUATE: 1) Complete the FAFSA (available at studentaid.gov) This is your TOPS application, as well as application for federal grants and student loans; 2) Complete the Louisiana TOPS form- if you are not completing the FAFSA (available at mylosfa.la.gov). If you choose this step, you must print a confirmation and bring it to the Counseling Office; 3) A parent or legal custodian, or a student legally emancipated or of the legal age of majority, may certify a waiver in writing to the LEA (See Mrs. Byrd for this form) . Only one step is required- you will not complete the FAFSA and the TOPS form. The FAFSA is also the TOPS application. The FAFSA application is available beginning October 1st. Students should complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA application using 2021 income tax information. The FAFSA Completion Guide is attached to this e-mail and is also available on the Class of 2024 Canvas page.
