National Honor Society Seniors – If you missed the deadline for your NHS stole, go to Local Level TODAY to purchase your stole before the final order goes in.

Juniors – If you are interested in becoming a Top Jacket your senior year, there is a MANDATORY information/interest meeting in the Learning Center TODAY.  You have two options to attend that day – either before school at 7:45 or after school at 4:00.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Panos or Ms. Springer.

The honor graduate list is posted outside the Counseling Office and on the Class of 2021 Canvas Page. Honor graduates are all students with a 4.0 GPA, plus the top 5% of the remaining graduating class. This year it includes all students with a 3.91 or higher cumulative grade point average. Honor graduates are eligible to purchase and wear a purple and gold honor cord, which will be distributed at the Senior Awards Assembly (TBA). You can purchase immediately at locallevelevents.com, or in the counseling office beginning TODAY. If purchasing at school, you must have exact change/cash only. The cost is $10. Cords must be purchased by April 23 to receive them at the assembly.  Purchase cords online at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/14444 Your access code is your student ID number without the preceding 0.

Math/Science Magnet students may wear the magnet stole at graduation. This is the white satin stole with letters BHS printed on the end. You can purchase immediately at locallevelevents.com, or in the Counseling Office beginning TODAY.  If purchasing at school, you must have exact change/cash only. Cost is $16. Juniors Junior Ring Ceremony is just a few weeks away.  Due to covid restrictions, there will be 2 ceremonies – One on Tuesday, May 18 and the other on Wed. May 19.  Get together with your friends and decide which night you want to participate, then go to locallevelevents and sign up.  There is a $10.00 participation fee which gets you 2 tickets for your guests.  Sign-up is Thursday, April 1 – Friday, April 23.

Junior and Sophomore girls interested in Key Club need to check their Canvas announcements for information on how to sign up!  Interviews will be next week so sign up now!

Seniors – Academic Key applications are available on the Canvas dashboard or you can pick one up in S102 or S214. Completed applications are due by April 8th.

Seniors – It’s time to start working on the senior slideshow! Please send up to three pictures that represent your high school career. Make sure pictures are clear and school-appropriate. No baby pictures!  You may submit three pictures to byrdseniorclass@gmail.com before April 22nd.

StuCo Elections – Student Council elections will be held next week.

Students – Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA who are interested in becoming a member-at-large for Student Council next school year need to fill out a form https://forms.gle/aai7D33amze2XxFc6 by TOMORROW.  QR codes will also be available around the school to scan the link.

Support Your Fellow Jackets – Please come support Byrd Beta Club at Chipotle Youree Dr on Wednesday, April 7, from  5-9 pm.  When ordering your food, be sure to let them know you are there for Byrd Beta!  Thanks for your support!

Students – If you would like to become a member of KByrd next year, fill out the application on Canvas. KByrd auditions will be Tuesday, April 20th, and Wednesday, April 21st. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 7th.

  • Virtual students will test on campus on the dates listed
  • All virtual students and students with accommodations will test in the mornings beginning at 8:30 sharp.
  • All tests are timed!  YOU MUST BE ON TIME.
  • All tests will be tested over a two-day period.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT BOTH DAYS!
  • All tests have three sessions.  We will test Session 1 on Day 1 (shorter day) and Sessions 2 & 3 on Day 2 (longer day).
  • There will be VERY few opportunities for make-up due to the schedule so everyone needs to be present and on time on both days of testing.
  • Retesters and Seniors will be notified individually regarding testing times.
  • All students will be required to wear a mask during the entire testing period.
  • Specific questions can be emailed to lwjohnson@caddoschools.org.

Upcoming Deadlines:

The Bossier Federal Credit Union scholarship application is available in the Counseling Office, or at www.bossierfcu.org/scholarships  This scholarship is available for any high school senior in Caddo, Bossier, or Webster parish entering college in fall 2021. You must submit the application, current transcript, and a typed, double-spaced essay of 500 words. The essay topic is “Who is someone in your life that you consider to be a role model? How has this person impacted your life?” The deadline is TODAY.

The Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA) will award ten (10) $1,000 scholarships: Five (5) males and five (5) females to graduating senior student-athletes whose parents/guardians are members of the coaches association. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 9.  A copy of the student-athlete’s transcript must be uploaded with the application. Additional support documentation (letter(s) of recommendation, student resumes, ACT/SAT scores, etc.) are optional, but should also be uploaded at the time of submission. Please note, partially completed applications are unable to be saved. Must be completely filled prior to submission. http://www.lhsca.org/scholarships

2021 We the Students Essay Contest is available at https://billofrightsinstitute.org/we-the-students-essay-contest Essay Prompt “What is the relationship between Equality and Justice?” 1st Place prize is $7,500. The deadline is April 15.

Volunteer Opportunities:

9th, 10th, and 11th Grade Astra Club – Two schools have offered us the opportunity to work at their field days.  They are First Baptist and University.  To work the First Baptist Field Day, you must have attended First Baptist.  All students must have passing grades.  Sign up with Mrs. Prothro or email her at MProthro@caddoschools.org.  You must provide your own transportation.
