Congratulations to the Byrd Fishing Team for winning the North Louisiana High School Fishing tournament on Toledo Bend this past weekend. This makes their second consecutive team win this year.

The Caddo Sheriff’s College Scholarship application is available at www.caddosheriff.org. The deadline to apply is March 19.

The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is excited to continue its annual scholarship program for young ladies in Caddo and Bossier Parishes who demonstrate high academics and a commitment to community service.  Each year, we award two $1,000 scholarships – one to a student in Caddo Parish and one to a student in Bossier Parish.  Requirements and applications are available on our website at www.jlsb.org/scholarships. The deadline is March 31.

Senior girls interested in joining a sorority next year- an informational meeting will be held March 4th, 5:30 pm at First Baptist Church Shreveport. Masks are required. Attendance is not required for a recommendation letter or to attend recruitment. Information only.

Seniors – If you are interested in participating in the Senior Ring Ceremony, please go by Room S105 or the main office to pick up an information sheet regarding requirements and cost.

StuCo Elections – Student Council Intent-to-Run for Office forms for the 2021-2022 school year will be available beginning March 3 in room 202. Intent-to-Run forms will be due by March 10. Campaign Week will be March 22  through March 26, and elections will be the week of March 29.  Only students who want to hold officer positions need to pick up a packet. Members-at-large will fill out applications in April.

Renaissance will be held during both lunch shifts on Thursday, March 11.  Please look for the list in your classroom.

Seniors – We are having a Senior Ring Ceremony on Friday, March 12, at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.  Check your Canvas soon for details!

Key Club – Freshmen guys be on the lookout for information on Key Club admissions.  Info on how to apply will be posted to the Byrd Blast and Canvas by the end of this week.  We look forward to having you!

JUNIORS – The deadline for students placing orders for class rings will be this THURSDAY, at 5 pm.  Orders can be placed online at www.balfour.com or at the Graduate Sales Office located at 2285 Benton Road, Suite D 105, Bossier City LA 71111 (Office hours are Monday thru Thursday 2-5 pm) Phone or text 318-549-0082.

National Society of Black Engineers – This Saturday The National Society of Black Engineers is hosting an event where high school students will have the opportunity to learn about being an engineering student and various career opportunities in engineering. The main purpose of the event is to expose students to the field of engineering by giving attendees the opportunity to talk to current NSBE college students and young professionals. This will also be an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn about NSBE and the wonderful support system that the organization offers. CLICK HERE for the flyer.
The Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is now accepting applications for membership from high school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state. Please share with anyone that may be interested. CLICK HERE more information is attached.

Volunteer Opportunity – Our local GUMBO (Games Uniting Mind and Body) meet on Saturday, March 24 at Lee Hedges Stadium.  This is a track and field meet for young people with physical impairments and visual impairments.  You may volunteer from 8:00am-11:00am for the field event competition or from 10:00am-1:00pm for the track events.  Please feel free to volunteer for the entire games from 8:00 am-1:00 pm if available.  All times are estimates only and will be confirmed closer to 4/15/2021.  Please email Dianna Watson at dianna.watson20@gmail.com with any questions or to sign up to volunteer.  Covid precautions will be followed.

Volunteer Opportunity – Reruns Are Fun workers needed from Astra Club and Key Club!  Read below for times and place. 2640 Youree Drive  Enter off E. Washington Red Brick Building @ back of parking lot. There will be a Reruns banner on the building. CLICK HERE for dates and details.

March 9 ACT and Pre-ACT Testing Locations – Students should bring a photo ID and an approved calculator that they are familiar with. Arrive on time, no later than 8:15 AM, and report directly to the testing room. Late arrivals may not enter testing rooms. NO CELL PHONES or other electronic devices allowed in testing rooms (earbuds, smartwatches, fitness bands, etc.) Do not bring backpacks, large purses, or large bags. Plan to be in testing locations until about 1:30 PM. Students will not be allowed to leave until all testing has ended. CLICK HERE for a full list of names and testing locations.

Transfers– Majority and Minitory (M2M), Hardship, and Medical Transfers for residents of Caddo Parish will be accepted, electronically through Caddo Parish Public Schools Online Registration System (ORS) from March 1, 2021, to April 15, 2021. Upcoming Deadlines:

Students – C.E. Byrd’s literary magazine, Perspectives, is now accepting entries. Students are encouraged to submit their original short stories, poems, or one-act plays for consideration for publication; visual art is also welcome. The topic and format are left to your imagination! All accepted entries will be published in a hard-copy magazine in May of 2021. If you are interested in submitting visual art for consideration, email the art as an attachment to perspectivesentry@gmail.com. See Mrs. Maier or your English teacher for more information. The due date for submission: March 12th.
