Students – Are you interested in learning about flying drones?  Would you like to become drone certified so you can make some money flying drones?  Come to an interest and information meeting TODAY after school in Mr. Schwab’s room, room 316.  The meeting will last about 10 minutes.

Teacher Appreciation Week 2021 is March 1-5. Let’s show our thanks and gratitude to our teachers, faculty, and staff for all they do in and out of the classroom especially during this time of Covid-19. Students – The Band will have a fundraiser at Newk’s Eatery on Youree Drive TONIGHT, from 5-8 p.m. Mention you’re with the Byrd Band and they will receive 15% of receipts collected. Thanks for supporting our amazing band!

Youth and Government debate TOMORROW MORNING at 7:45 AM in the auditorium. Be there! 50 people max in attendance so be on time!

Juniors – There’s still time to order your class ring from Graduate Sales!  They will be here TOMORROW in the Learning Center from 4:00-6:30 pm.  Please bring a $70 deposit. You can also order your ring at www.balfour.com.  Ring order packets are available in room S-105 and the main office.

AP Exams fee reminder – Fee notification letters were mailed to parents in December.  Exam fees are now being accepted.  Payment for students qualified for free/reduced-price lunch should be paid in the counseling office to Ms. Eason.  All other students must submit payment on payforit.net. The deadline for payment is February 26th. Exam orders will be canceled for any fee not paid by February 26th.

March ACT – On Tuesday, March 9th the statewide ACT will be given to all 11th grade students.  Seniors with the highest ACT composite score of 20 or below may also test on that day.  Tenth grade students will take the PreACT.  Testing will take place on campus.  Students do not need to register; all 11th grade students and all eligible seniors will be scheduled to test.  Contact Penny Eason at peason@caddoschools.org if you have questions.

On Track Test Prep is hosting a one day ACT Boot Camp for the March 9 ACT test on Saturday, March 6, from 8:00 am until noon.  Please contact: Sherri Moss at 572-5507 to register today! Limited space due to Covid.

Students – C.E. Byrd’s literary magazine, Perspectives, is now accepting entries. Students are encouraged to submit their original short stories, poems, or one-act plays for consideration for publication; visual art is also welcome. The topic and format are left to your imagination! All accepted entries will be published in a hard-copy magazine in May of 2021. Upcoming Deadlines:

AFA’s Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship Essay Contest is an annual competition for college-bound high school seniors.  Applicants are asked to write a 1,200 to 1,500-word essay that describes the impact of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia-related illness on themselves, their families, or their communities, and what they have learned in light of coping with the brain disorder. The grand prize winner receives $5,000, with additional prizes awarded for runners up. CLICK HERE for more information and to enter. Deadline: February 15, 2021

Presidential Volunteer Service Award – Any student who has 100 or more volunteer service hours from March 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021, is eligible for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.  The hours can be school-related, community activities, church activities, mission trips, etc.  Completed volunteer activity sheets must be submitted to Mrs. Prothro by Monday, March 1, 2021.  Please email Mrs. Prothro at mprothro@caddoschools.org with any questions.
