Byrd ran for more than 350 yards and Chris Grieder tied a school record by snagging three interceptions as the Yellow Jackets opened District 1-5A play with a 28-10 victory over Haughton on Thursday night at Lee Hedges Stadium.

Byrd’s victory snapped the Buccaneers’ three-game win streak in the series. Grieder’s effort tied the three-pick effort from Nicholas Peoples against Parkway in 2011.

Byrd (2-0, 1-0 District 1-5A) travels to Natchitoches in Week 3. Haughton (1-1, 0-1) travels to Benton (0-1).

Running back William Berry tallied two first-half touchdowns — a 60-yard sprint in the first quarter and an 11-yard run with 6 seconds left in the half to give the Yellow Jackets a 14-3 lead.
